My beloved Swiss trails with kids (Part 2)

If you’ve already checked out Part 1, it’s time for the sequel! Here’s another batch of my absolute fave Swiss family-friendly hikes ❤️ Read on, and who knows? maybe we’ll be waving at each other from across the Alps real soon!

Lauterbrunnen Valley & the Village of Mürren

Lauterbrunnen is iconic… Swiss postcard levels of iconic. It’s no wonder thousands of tourists from around the world make their way here. But don’t worry, it’s not swarming like the Tatra Mountains in summer 😉 Strolling through the valley while gawking at waterfalls and snowy peaks? Yes, please. From there, you can ride up to the fairytale-like village of Mürren. It’s an easygoing, scenic walk with uninterrupted views of the holy trinity of the Alps: Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. An absolute must-see!

Chäferliweg

This trail is basically engineered for kids – Swiss-style. And when I say “for kids,” I mean pure fun for everyone from tots to preteens. So, on Chäferliweg, you go on a little ladybug hunt (Chäferli = ladybug in Swiss dialect), while tackling fun tasks along the way. Expect playgrounds, fire pits, and BBQ spots galore. Kids are marching like champs for hours, and grown-ups get the jaw-dropping views of the Four Cantons region. Win-win!

Oeschinensee

Imagine a turquoise mountain lake surrounded on three sides by sheer rock walls. A genuine nature’s masterpiece! After a cable car ride up from Kandersteg, a mostly flat trail leads you to the lake itself. The closer you get, the more that high-alpine drama kicks in. You can picnic, stroll around it, or hike higher for panoramic views. Magical in summer or winter, and tested with babies, toddlers, and yes, even in late-stage pregnancy 😄 Verdict: utterly divine!

Pizol Panoramaweg

This one’s a breezy panoramic loop in the Pizol massif. Just over an hour from Zurich, and you’re on a dramatic high-mountain plateau. From here you can feast your eyes on the Glarus Alps, Graubünden, and basically half of eastern Switzerland. Just a heads-up: the map says it’s short, but trust me, you’ll be stopping every five minutes to take pics and pick your jaw up off the ground. It’s that good. Chef’s kiss.

Klöntalersee

This was one of the first places I explored after moving to Switzerland. This pristine lake in the canton of Glarus is tucked between towering peaks and is an absolute dream for walking or camping. Bring the bikes (balance bikes, too!), and just coast along the lakeside trail. Unspoiled nature, vivid colors, icy water – aka the perfect recipe for a refreshing summer outing.
